about

My dear friend Ely Fair wrote this song and we performed it together in a project called Merle Hagrid. I asked him last week if i could record it and put it up on here. The tune itself speaks of the courage it takes to leave and to confront the needs of oneself. We often deal with this in relationship. This song reminds me that other people cant fix us. \ That is for us to do. Your friends and lovers , if you have any; will feel like a home. Sometimes we run away to the desert. Sometimes we run to ourselves. one thing is for sure if we are open we are constantly learning. this song teaches. thanks Ely!

lyrics

goin down to bartlesville see my old family home
come back tomorrow despondent and hungover
empty my pockets leave my pants on the floor
climb into bed though i dont want you round me no more
no this cant be my life

Chorus

any day now i will go
disappear after a few more shows
I've done my best to call you home
and it aint your fault that i was wrong

it;s the autumn of my days at least that's what i tell my self
older and wiser and bitter as hell
im fresh out of ideas to get you to hear me out
in the back of my mind some younger self screaming out
oh no this cant be your wife

Chorus

grab a bag and the dog and a few packs of cigarettes
throw a spare and some tools in the back of my covered truck
turn the wheel south but then start moving west
head for the dessert of the wondering dispossessed
oh i promise to write

Chorus

its the autumn of my days at least thats what i tell my self
older and wiser and bitter as hell
i cant see a way clear of this trouble ive found
endless cluttered up dreams and a spirit thats run aground
oh i promise to write
i promise to write
